Why does it say “DVD Only” when I buy Microsoft Office and Windows 7?
I’m buying ѕοmе discounted software frοm a University tech store. It hаѕ Windows 7 Ultimate Student fοr $42. Bυt іt ѕауѕ “DVD Onlу!” Wіll I bе missing anything? It ѕауѕ thе same thing fοr Microsoft Office.
That means the only thing you’ll get is the installation DVD… no box, manual or other extras that may have been included in the retail box.
The software you will receive (as long as the site you are buying it from is legitimate) is the full, licensed version of the software, so you won’t be missing anything as far as the software itself is concerned. You just won’t receive any of the other items that come in the commercial box with the software. Most of the time, that only amounts to the registration card, sales brochures and instruction manuals… so if you can live without those, there’s no reason not to purchase the DVD only. DO make sure you receive the Windows 7 registration sticker, however… you will need this to activate your copy of Windows once installed. If the seller will not include this information your copy is not a legitmate copy and you should NOT buy it.
If you were a computer manufacturer buying software this way you’d be buying what is called the OEM version… basically the software with no accessories. It’s a good way to save money and cut down on needless packaging.
So you should be good to go, as long as the seller is legitimate!
You may not be getting the product key. I’d advise to NOT buy it. Google can save you some money.
I can think of two explanations.
1. The software comes on DVD, since it’s too big to fit on a CD anymore.
2. All you get is the DVD. No box, no manuals, etc. If it is legit software, it will have the product key and the Microsoft “certificate of authenticity” on it.
