I understand thаt thе term “Nazi” derived frοm National “Socialism,” аnd thus thе political movement οf fascism hаѕ more іn common wіth communism thаn one mіght thіnk… bυt іt’s still ѕtrаngе tο mе thаt thеѕе two movements οn thе opposite ends οf thе “wing” spectrum wουld both act ѕο similarly, exercising tight controls οn industry. Of course, communists nationalized everything entirely, bυt I’m still nοt clear οn whаt fascists wanted tο bе done wіth private industry.
I’d appreciate іt іf someone сουld ехрlаіn (pretend уου′re talking tο a high schooler here, nοt a scholar) hοw fascist (nοt јυѕt Nazi) economic policies, wіth regard tο state involvement іn industry, differed frοm those οf thе communists οf thе time (e.g. Stalin), аnd whу іѕ thіѕ “third way” lаbеllеd a rіght-wing movement, whеn іt involves state intervention?

Socialism is more like a “light communsim”. Government intervention in distribution of wealth (spreading the economic flow and tax payers money equally to all classes of citizens), controlled production, and wages. Basicly you can own a buissness or more so rent a buissness from the government. So self impoyment is technicaly possible its very limited and still controled by the government. Communism is just the extreme of this. A totaltarian state which Stalin used to control Russia where every single detail was controlled by the government. Now to Facism. Lets get one thing very clear here, because it’s a common misconception by most people and even historians. facism is a government system, and communism is an economic system. Fascism is a military dictatorship that is run by the cheif or head commander of the military, aka. Hitler of Germany, General Hideki Tojo, or Benito Mussolini. Commuism is not a dictatorship, all though every single communist country in history has led to being a dictatorship. Typicaly a socalist country that falls under a dicatorship will become fascist, and a communist country that falls under dictatorship will become totaltarian. To adress the propoganda against the right wing. It is merely sheer ignorance of the mainstream media as well as the youth of western society that pushes neo-nazis, and right wing agenda in the same direction. The right wing movement is specificly based off of keeping government small where facism is the exact opposite along with communism.
Words don’t mean anything. East Germany (the Communist side of Germany after WWII) was called the German “Democratic” Republic.
First of all, you have to look beyond the economic policies of fascism and at its overall philosophy. What do fascists believe in generally? Then compare it with what the right wing or the left wing believe in. So I’ll just give you a little rundown on what right wing beliefs fascists also believe in:
1. Extreme Nationalism (According to Hitler, the German race is the master race that will rule the world. And in Italy, who had all that glory of Rome rantings by Mussolini)
2. Religious extremism (Hard to believe I know but hey, the Nazis had the words “Gott min uns” engraved in their belts. translation: God is with us. It is hard to say if Hitler believed in God but he did believe in destiny; he believed he was destined to save Germany.)
3. Support for past traditions (Most Nazis wanted a return to the past, when Germany was one of the stronger empires out there)
4.Anti-left (Most leftists whether they were socialists, communists, liberals, trade unionists, etc. where considered enemies of the government)
If you look at economics only, it is a bit harder to see the difference between fascism and communism considering both supported “big government”. However, there is one major difference between the two:
5.Communism supports an egalitarian society (people are more equal) while fascism supported social hierarchy (there are rich and poor and the rich are more important) In Nazi Germany and in Italy also, the fascist governments actively supported big business while going all out against unions.
That I believe makes a lot of difference between fascism and any left-wing ideology. Anyway, hope this helps.
‘Socialism’ was a word from the early days of the Nazi party. The ‘Socialist’ part of the Nazis was ended in the mid-1930s, when the leader of the Socialist section of the party, Gregor Strasser, and many of his followers were assasinated.
How was it different from Communism? The Nazis believed in the free market. They didn’t think ther government should take over things that private corporations did. The most state intervention that they did was to 1) Squash labor unions – something that the corporations would want, and 2) Make companies switch from consumer goods to military goods (eg., make tanks instead of cars), but this was something that any nation needed to do for war; and the companies made great profits from this. So,it was not any sort of socialism.
