well wranglers are newer so thats always good, but jeeps last for a long time especially the older ones. I know the cj’s are thinner so theyd be better for off road going where there is a lot of trees and stuff but that also means its more likely to tip over. I would go with a wrangler just because they are the newer one but either way jeeps are awesome. Just don’t get one with square headlights they look weird.
CJ-7′s had adjustable seats in them.
CJ’s are very old and beat up more often than not. One really has to crawl under and look at key weld points like motor mounts, body mounts. They have leaf springs instead of coil springs (which is better is a great debate). It all boils down to preference. Some people swear by the CJ and some love the TJ, or even the YJ, best. One thing I can promise you is that if this is you’re first jeep, it will just be your FIRST jeep.
The Cj style normally has adjustable seats. I have a YJ(they have square headlights) too frikin bad, its a 91 and works better than any of my friends newer models of the wrangler. Remember that the older you go, there have probably been alot more people under it and switching around parts. If you can get a YJ with the inline-six and nothing done to the engine, then they’re cheap to put a SOA(mine is now lifted 7.5″) on and i feel that they move pretty amazingly on the trails. Any model that you go with you’ll be able to fit to your comfort(if you are willing to spend money on them.
At 18(im a chick) i knew how to work on everything on my first YJ, they’re easy to know all of the parts and the only problem i have EVER had with a YJ running-wise is that one time i had to bleed out my clutch and put new liquid in(it took 15 minutes or less) and works like brand new… If you go to an auto part shop then you can get a Haynes Repair Manual and it will list pretty much everything… if you can look at one of those, you’ll be able to tell that any CJ or YJ are really easy to work on and fix at home if you have the tools
I got my CJ-7 for a couple reasons, the main reason you don’t see many of them on the road. they are really easy to work on no electrical crap just a few wires in the engine compartment no emission control stuff.you can customize them as far as your wallet can take you. and lastly the CJ’s just have a real rugged classic look. and yes the seats do adjust its called a seat slider. resale value just depends on who your selling it to but hopefully you’ll never have to sell your CJ. i really dont like the YJ’s becasue of their square head lights
