since you have had no luck with the board of education, call them one more time and say your are going to call your local news station about the PTA president using her food stamps for school functions and reselling the food for cash. Schools want to protect their reputation and stay out of the news.
-I feel the best way to deal with your daughter’s idiot teacher is to go up to the school and talk to the school’s counselor or Principal to set up a meeting with you and the teacher.
-showing up at the school will get better results bc, they have to deal with you and can’t just hang up the phone and ignore your complaint.
good luck.
Oh, my. Meet with the principal about the teacher.
Depends who you have been contacting in regard to the board – different places have different setups. Contact the chairman of the board first, then individual board members. Contact the Director of Education, or any of the various superintendents.
What the PTA president is doing is actually illegal – so if what she is doing isn’t stopped, there could be criminal charges brought. Are the books of the PTA officially audited?
The only real concern you should have here is about the teacher calling your child names, and the lack of communication. I would suggest that you write letters to the teacher, principal and superintendent addressing your concerns and mail them via certified mail.
As for the issue with the PTA president and food stamps, there is nothing the school can do about that and it is not a threat to your child at all. There probably is a department where you can report fraud-try contacting your Department of Social Services or whatever agency issues food staps where you live.
The only “rights” you have, really, are the right to send your child to that school or not. See about transferring her to another public school, or enroll her in private school. Homeschooling is an option (and one I highly recommend-I homeschool and love it).
Band together with other upset parents and go as a group to the Board of Education building and refuse to leave until you are granted a meeting… or do the same with the principal. No one’s really afraid of one mom making phone calls, make your side bigger and show up in person and they will be likely to listen to you. If you have proof of what the PTA president is doing, you can report her to the Department of Human Services, but I’m thinking it’s going to be tough to prove.
First, the teacher is way out of line. Lashing out and calling your daughter names is childish and irresponsible. She is risking her self esteem and no one has the right to do that to anyone.
Second, as the parent you really have ALL the power. The principal should have been notified about the name calling. At that point the principal should have intervened, perhaps with a conference between the teacher, you, and the principal. If that did not resolve your issues, then the school board should be notified. Since they are not returning your calls (not surprising considering that the office is busy and they may not have received your messages) you can always go to the school board meeting. They are open to the public. In my district they post the schedule online and before the meeting starts the public can sign up to speak directly to the board. If the school board does not respond in a reasonable manner to your concerns you do have legal recourse.
As far as the PTA President using food stamps to purchase and resell food for profit, if the food stamps are state regulated then that is the state’s concern, not the school board’s. Now if she is misusing PTA funds that is another issue that also has legal consequences.
Good luck with this. Just reading your story has me fuming.
You are taking to the wrong people. Instead of going to the school board and the PTA you need to be going to the Superintendent of schools.
