well depends what you want to do. i like to use illustrator for vector, photoshop for rastor, and flash for animation and just having fun. those are my 3 faves.
photoshop cs is the winner !!
Painter IX, so far I found this program fantastic , plus Photoshop CS3, I downloaded some amazing brushes and you can really related to them when you want to make the final touches and so.
