Dοеѕ anyone hаνе аnу suggestions fοr Ultra wide angle glass fοr Nikon. I hаνе 2 іn mind rіght now thе Sigma 10-20 аnd thе Nikon 12-24. Price really isn’t a concern, whісh іѕ sort οf whу I always lean towards thе Nikon (resale, quality, name). It dοеѕ nοt necessarily need tο bе a zoom lens еіthеr. Really јυѕt looking fοr suggestions аt thіѕ point. Perhaps a diamond іn thе rough out thеrе thаt I mау nοt hаνе looked аt.

You might want to also consider the Tokina 12-24 – it has some good reviews. The Nikon 12-24 is highly regarded, but the Tokina seems to be a good bargain for the performance. I would personally probably go with the Nikon, but I’d have to save up quite a bit first!
Even though I haven’t seen the Nikon in detail, I will swear my life on it being better than the Sigma. I’ve only ever had bad experiences with Sigma and would never buy another Sigman if my life and career depended on it.
Anyway, the wide angle I use is the Tamron 11-18. It serves me very well and considering I’m one of the more expensive photographers here in New Zealand, I’d have to say it must be an OK lens to have my clients keep coming.
If you want to see raw images from this lens, send me an email and I will send you some.
There are a few on my website under the wedding and commercial pages http://www.straightshots.co.nz

Stick with Nikon.
See review of lenses in those lens lengths linked below.
If price is no object, then definitely go with the Nikon.

I own Nikon 12-24 and my buddy owns Sigma 10-20
I shoot wedding and Sigma was not available at first. My friend wanted that extra wide angle and bought it after he saw my pictures.
At first I thought I should have waited, but when compared the colors of the images shot using the Sigma lens were slightly off. The skin ton was not as pleasing as the nikon. At first I thought there might be difference in camera setting so I mounted his lens on my D70. And there’s definitely difference in color of the images.
I am very happy with 12-24 lens for event photography (parties and dance floor). I almost never go down to 12 mm so getting another 2mm wider wouldn’t help anyway.
Good Luck.

Fixed focal lenses have always been thought to be better quality than zooms and they can be cheaper (although by not much because they usually have better aperture.) So after deciding exactly what it is I want to do with that lens, I would pick the focal length best fitted to my purpose and go with that.
And this brings up another question: how much are you going to use this lens? I own a 24mm which I rarely use because it is such an extreme wide angle. 24 starts showing some distortion but it can be controlled somewhat by using the lens right. Anything wider than that and you’re getting more and more distortion which makes those focal lengths either a highly specialized lens or a special effect that becomes tiring.
The only reason I bought mine is because it was used and at a very good price. Whenever I needed anything wider I rented the lens. It only happened twice that I remember so it was a huge saving.
If money is no concern always go with the best. Off brands can sometimes have some amazing lenses such as the Tamron 300/2.8 (at least way back when when I was still spending a lot of time checking out gear). I also owned an off-brand focal doubler for my Hasselblad system which was absolutely incredible. But those are few and far between and should never be considered without the thumbs-up of some serious photographer(s) or a trial of the lens. After all, the glass is a good chunk of the quality of your image.
Hope that helps.
Out of those two choices I would buy the nikon, and while the sigma is a great lens and gets high reviews, if money wasn’t a concern I’d just go with the nikkor glass. Have you considered primes? Personally if money wasn’t a concern, and I needed an ultra or super wide lens I’d much rather have a prime, such as the nikkor 14mm f/2.8. I just think a prime at that focal length is much sharper than any zoom and at 14mm you get the middle of those other lenses zoom ranges and for anything wider, both nikon and sigma both have primes that go all the way down to 8mm. Anyway, that would be my suggestion. Also, don’t sleep on signa either, they’ve got some good glass as well. Hope that helps.
Peace
