If you bought it, it’s yours to do with as you wish.
As long as you do not claim it to be your work, then it’s perfectly fine. I would be a little hesitant to sell it if the artist’s signiture want on it. But to answer your question, no it’s not illigal, if you bought it, it’s your property to do what you want with it.

You can sell the painting to another person.
What you CAN’T do is make copies of the painting, and sell those. I found out in time to avoid problems for myself. I bought a painting of two horses. I wanted to use the painting as the cover of a book I was going to publish. A man at the publishing company told me I could not do that unless I had the permission of the original artist (and probably would have to pay something to the artist as well).
Your the owner, you can do whatever you want with it. Just like if you bought a car, its yours you can sell it or donate it or whatever you want. Nothing to do with copyright laws unless your making copies of it and trying to sell them. Your not taking credit for its creation but it belongs to you sell it and get rid of it if that is what you want to do.
Paintings are bought and sold all the time. It is yours to sell you just cannot reproduce it.
